In this article, we describe how to send funds across chains, for example, from the Polkadot Relay Chain to Polkadot Asset Hub. If you want to transfer funds on the same chain, please check this article.
ℹ️ GOOD TO KNOW
If you have any questions about receiving funds in Polkawallet or run into any issues and require further assistance, feel free to ask our AI chatbot or contact us.
Alternatively, you can also search Polkawallet's documentation or contact their team directly through email, and receive specialized assistance from the team that developed the wallet.
How to make a cross-chain transfer
With Polkawallet, you can transfer funds from any of the supported chains to any chain that supports this asset. In our example, we'll be transferring DOT from the Polkadot Relay Chain to Polkadot Asset Hub (former Statemint), but the process is the same for any cross-chain transfer.
1. First, select the network and account you want to send the funds from. Check this article on how to do it.
2. Tap on the "Metahub" button. This will open a variety of features.
3. At the top, tap on "Bridge" and then tap "Enter".
4. On the screen that opens up, you can select the details of the transfer.
a. Tap here to select the sending network. By default, it is set to the network you selected in Step 1.
b. Tap here to select the destination network. This will open up a list of available chains where you can send from the selected origin chain. In this example, we select Statemint, the former name of Polkadot Asset Hub.
c. You can change the sending account by tapping on this button
d. Then enter the amount you want to send. You can also tap on "All" to send all transferable balance.
ℹ️ GOOD TO KNOW
The maximum transferable balance is determined automatically based on the following factors:
- if the account has any locked or reserved balance
- the estimated transaction fees (which are substracted from the available balance)
‼️ IMPORTANT The "Origin Chain Transfer Fee" is deducted from the sending account's transferable balance. The "Destination Chain Transfer Fee" is deducted from the amount sent upon arrival at the destination chain. If you tap "All", the entire transferable balance will be sent, possibly resulting in the account being reaped.
e. Finally, tap on "Transfer".
4. Review the details of the transaction and click "Submit" to finalize it.
ℹ️ GOOD TO KNOW If you want to add a tip for the validator to increase the transaction's priority, you can set that by tapping on "Advanced Options". In almost all cases you don't need to use a tip.
