Polkadot-JS UI: Explanation of Crowdloan Page Print

⛔ READ THIS FIRST!
With the introduction of Agile Coretime on Polkadot and Kusama, crowdloans have been deprecated. The funds used to participate in previous crowdloans will remain locked until the corresponding slot lease expires, but there will no longer be any slot auctions or crowdloans in the future. This article is temporarily available for reference.
Although starting a crowdloan campaign is optional for participating in a parachain slot auction, Polkadot and Kusama networks allow any project to ask the community for help to win the slot in a decentralized way.
By creating crowdloans, projects invite the community to contribute with their DOT to win auctions for parachains slots. Polkadot-JS UI gathers and summarizes this on-chain information about current and past crowdloans.
Because the amount of information from crowdloans is conveniently displayed on just one screen, this article describes the main parameters and values we can find on the Crowdloan tab on Polkadot-JS UI.
TABLE OF CONTENTS
‼️ IMPORTANT
Polkadot-JS UI is a web wallet meant for power users and developers. For everyday use, there are several user-friendly wallets funded by the Polkadot Treasury that support a plethora of features and platforms. Discover them on Polkadot's homepage.
To facilitate comprehension, the article will go through the three main sections of the page: general information, ongoing crowdloans, and past crowdloans.
General information
This section shows a summary related to all the crowdoans, past and present, and even the possibility for a project to initiate its own crowdloan.
1. Funds. Indicates the number of projects that won a slot through a crowdloan or are currently bidding for one.
2. Active raised / cap. Backing funds for all the active projects and the sum of the cap of all of them.
3. Total raised / cap. Funds raised by all (past and active) crowdloans over the total cap.
4. "+ Add fund" button. This button allows any project to initiate a crowdloan.
5. Important warning message about the appropriate way to contribute to a crowdloan. The DOT holder should use the "+ Contribute" button next to each project and never send funds to the project's account. Otherwise, the token might not be returned to the contributor's account after the lease period or campaign ends.
Ongoing crowdloans
The middle section summarizes the information about the current crowdloans. Remember that not all projects bidding in the open auction must start a crowdloan, as some may choose self-funding.
1. ParaID. Unique on-chain identifier of the project.
2. Name. The project might give further optional details.
3. Status. Current status of the crowdloan campaign (in this section, it's always Active).
4. Ending. Block number and the estimated date by which the campaign will end.
5. Leases. Lease period numbers the candidates are bidding for. One lease period lasts 12 weeks on Polkadot and 6 weeks on Kusama. The screenshot shows lease periods 11 to 18, i.e., eight lease periods (98 weeks on Polkadot or 48 weeks on Kusama). A parachain can bid for no more than eight lease periods in one auction.
6. Raised. Amount of DOT raised and percentage over the cap set by the project.
7. Count. The number of accounts that are contributing to each campaign.
8. "+ Contribute" and Homepage. Polkadot-JS UI allows any DOT holder to participate in a crowdloan. The homepages are provided by the projects and might help to understand each project's conditions, like rewards, restrictions, etc.
Completed crowdloans
The bottom part of the crowdloan page shows the status of past projects that won a parachain slot invoking a crowdloan.
1. ParaID and name of the project. The names are
2. The current status of the project regarding its slot.
3. Ending. The block number when the crowdloan campaign ended.
4. Leases. The lease period number the project bid for and won.
5. Raised. Amount of DOT raised and its percentage over the cap set.
6. Count. The number of accounts that participated in the crowdloan.
