PolkaGate: How to Connect a Ledger Account Print
Modified on: Tue, 13 Jan, 2026 at 10:31 AM
PolkaGate is a Polkadot wallet developed and maintained by PolkaGate Foundation. It is an open-source browser extension available for Mozilla Firefox and Chromium-based browsers, funded by the Kusama Treasury. PolkaGate is compatible with many DApps and tools in the ecosystem.
In this article, we'll show how to connect your Ledger account to PolkaGate.
ℹ️ GOOD TO KNOW
If you have any questions about PolkaGate, or run into any issues and require further assistance, feel free to ask our AI chatbot or contact us.
Alternatively, you can contact the PolkaGate team directly and receive specialised assistance from the team that developed the wallet. You can contact PolkaGate support on Element or at polkagate@outlook.com
‼️ IMPORTANT
You can connect your Ledger only using a Chromium-based browser, such as Google Chrome, Brave, and Edge.1. First, make sure your Ledger has the latest Polkadot app installed and the latest firmware version.
2. Connect your Ledger to your computer and unlock it.
3. Then open the Polkadot app on your Ledger.
4. Click on the PolkaGate icon next to your URL bar. If you've set a login password, you'll need to enter it and unlock the wallet first:

5. Open Settings by clicking the gear icon:

6. In the new panel, click "Account Settings":

7. Now, select the "Import Account" option:

8. A new window will open in your browser. Click "Attach QR-Signer":

9. Click the app that you have installed on your Ledger Device. In this article, we are using the "Ledger Polkadot Generic" app:

If you are connecting your Ledger for the first time, this screen will appear. Ensure your Ledger device is unlocked and the Polkadot app is open. Then, select your Ledger device and click "Connect". If you've connected before, you can skip to the next step.

ℹ️ GOOD TO KNOW
In most cases you want to connect the first account in the list. If you've used your Ledger with other apps, like Ledger Wallet App (formerly Ledger Live), that's the first account created by default.
10. Now, mark the check box, and click "Import," or click "+ Add New Account" if you want to import another account from your Ledger:

11. That's it! Your Ledger account has been restored, and the account will appear among your accounts.
