How to create a new account in PolkaGate
‼️ IMPORTANT
PolkaGate is a non-custodial wallet, which means that only you have access to your accounts. For this reason it is imperative that you keep your mnemonic phrase and backup file with a password safe. Without either of these, it is impossible to restore your account if you ever lose access to it.
1. Click on the extension icon next to your URL bar. If you've set a login password, you'll need to enter it and unlock the wallet first:
2. If you don't have any accounts yet, just click "Create a new account":
Otherwise, click on the menu button in the top right corner of the extension, click "New account," and then choose "Create new account":
3. The extension will open in a new tab and you will be presented with your 12-word mnemonic phrase:
Write your mnemonic phrase down on paper and store it securely.
4. Name your account. The name will be used locally and won't appear on the blockchain.
5. Choose a good password for your account and repeat it.
6. Mark "I have saved my recovery phrase safely" and click "Create account":
7. That's it! Your new account will appear in the extension. Check this article to see what you can do with it in the extension.
