You can create a DOT account in any wallet that supports Polkadot. For detailed information on how to set up Polkadot accounts using the different tools that Web3 Foundation/Parity developed and supports, please see our article links below.

  1. Polkadot browser extension - see below video tutorial
  2. Polkadot-JS user interface (UI)
  3. Subkey (needs technical knowledge)
  4. Parity Signer

Whether or not you use an external hardware wallet, we highly recommend that you add your accounts through the browser extension, as it has many advantages:

  2. Your browser won't "forget" your accounts if its cookies are cleared
  3. The extension recognizes all known Polkadot scams and alerts you when you access a phishing site. This will help you protect yourself and your funds.

Note: You will still need to use the Polkadot-JS UI to manage your accounts.
